Solid Waste Management Thematic Group  (SWM TG)

The main purpose of the Solid Waste Management Thematic Group on (SWM TG) is to assist Municipal Development and Local Governance Sector Working Group (MDLG SWG) and contribute to improving the management of the solid waste sector in terms of planning, management, donor coordination and harmonization, thus improving the performance of the PA at the local government level. The specific objectives of the group are to:

  • develop a solid waste action plan and support the PA in its implementation;
  • identify key reform priorities;
  • set a clear vision and comprehensive overview of activities in the sector (both ongoing and planned) by different stakeholders;
  • report to the MDLG SWG about priorities and policy requirements, along with specific recommendations for action;
  • identify primary indicators that will be used to measure improvements in the solid waste management sector, and set indicators to measure sector performance based on the national strategy;
  • create synergy among donor-funded projects to avoid duplication;
  • provide input regarding the national strategy on solid waste management.
  • The SWM TG reports to the ISG on a regular basis.


    Membership in the group is limited to donors and other relevant institutions (e.g. non-governmental organizations, private sector organizations) that provide substantial financial or analytical value to the sector, as well as pertinent PA institutions.
